The Cons of Remote Work No One Talks About

Remote work is great. When I say great, I mean the best part of being a working adult. Peaceful, flexible, and quiet. But maybe a teeny weeny bit too quiet.

At first, it feels perfect. No traffic. No random chatter. No unnecessary meetings. You wake up, log in, and boom, you’re productive in pajamas. It feels like you’ve figured life out. Phew!

But then the days start to melt into each other.

When was the last time you stepped outside for something other than a delivery?

When did you last hear a new story that didn’t come from a screen? Not Instagram reels, not Youtube Achalugo, not Zoom meetings, just friendly physical gist.

Here’s the hidden catch: remote work can quietly shrink your world if you’re not careful. You stop meeting new people. You stop overhearing the gist. And that silence starts to dull your edges, especially the creative ones - if you are not mindful.

Because inspiration doesn’t only come from Pinterest or Notion.

Sometimes it’s from the man at the bus stop arguing about fuel price, or the akara woman who knows everyone’s gist before 8 a.m. That’s real data, too.

So yes, work from home. But also live from outside.

Take a walk. Visit friends. Go for that event, even if it’s just for the small chops.

Stretch. Dance. Gym. Collect vitamin D. Laugh like you mean it.

You can love your work and still love your life.

Just don’t let the screen swallow your world.

Logging off now. Might go buy akara tomorrow morning cause I need this advice for myself.
