Do you own crochet wear?

Crochet is that fashion trend that is brimming with fast-paced thread of nostalgia and a riot of vibrant colors that makes you look at the wearer of the piece twice.

Growing up, my mother always had a knitting pin when she was less busy, knitting cardigans here and there and almost everything - my apologies, but I sort of termed it something for the older generation. You know, even in movies, people are like “the old granny with seven cats who knits!” Well, forgive me, I know better now, thank you.

I wholeheartedly love the way young people embrace crochet, and social media is their creative playground. Platforms like Instagram, Pinterest, and TikTok have become homes for showcasing crochet's colorful life. The versatility of crocheting has ignited a worthy appeal to Gen Zs and it is worth every twist of a yarn.

Crochet and Knitting

I only recently learnt that Crochet differs from knitting! There are fundamentally different yarn crafting techniques. In knitting, stitches are knitted together using two needles, but in crochet, a single hook is frequently used to construct each stitch. This has an effect on the final texture; knitting produces smoother, stretchier materials, while crochet produces denser fabrics.

While knitting could need a more

a complicated technique, crochet is frequently speedier and gives versatility through a variety of stitches.

Versatility of Crochet

People are doing almost everything with crochet. From clothing with the most wonderful designs and bold colors to home decors, to blankets, accessories too are not spared, hats, scarves, and bags that make one look unique from the crowd and gives you a personal style is something noteworthy.

Each piece of crochet speaks of the craftpersons skills and personal commitment. It just tells a story.

Some of my favorite Nigerian crocheters include:
