Let’s not lie, this title slapped!!

The kind of book you want to pick up and read as a Nigerian woman (especially if you’ve chopped small breakfast before). It gets you curious as a Nigerian man too. Because… why? We all know, but why are you shouting it like that? Nobody should bully our Nigerian men like this! (Though these men in the book??? Deserving!)

The title promises vibes, drama, and potential trauma, and spoiler alert? It delivered all three with the ease of a Lagos traffic jam. Trust me on this one.

The Plot:

Right when you think this is just a romantic comedy with a twist of pepper, secrets start to bubble up. Efua’s perfect life has cracks, and those cracks are not just hairline, my God, they’re foundational bald head!

No spoilers, but let’s just say Humphrey didn’t come to play. She came to remind us that sometimes, the people who look the happiest are the ones carrying the heaviest loads.

Meet Efua: The Ghanaian Queen in the Middle of Yoruba Family Drama

Efua Johnson. Ghanaian posh babe turned Lagos wife and therapist, married to her young love Femi (yes, Femi. Please don’t come for me.) Efua is smart, stunning, and the only married woman in her circle. Her life should be soft, but alas, her mother-in-law had other plans.

Honestly, the woman should’ve just married her son and freed Efua. Why are you angry your son married a Ghanaian?

That woman needs deliverance, if you don’t believe me, go and read the book.

Lagos Girls Be Knowing 🤦🏿‍♀️

These girls? Represent premium Lagos women navigating premium shege.

• Bola thought she met Odogwu Paranran. But God forbid bad thing.

• Rita? I laugh in brokenness.

• Kemi? Parents from hell.

• And Sarah? Whew. Her struggles are global.

Through them, we experience love in Lagos - hopeful, hilarious, and humiliating. These men? Should be returned back to their sender with a slap and a prayer, so God can forgive them.

Nigerian Men and Their Wahala

This book doesn’t bash men, it gives them space to stain responsibly. With all the hypo in the world, they still manage to find charcoal and spit on people’s whites. Please be guided. You have been warned, shine your eyes.

The Writing Style?

Humphrey’s writing was fun, sharp, and peppered with banter. My only “hmm” moment? The switch from first to third-person POV. Slightly jarring but forgivable, because the prose still shone.

Final Thoughts?

Nigerian Men Will Stain Your White is witty, layered, and very enjoyable. No cap. It doesn’t overstay its welcome, but it leaves you wanting more, especially from the women whose lives we peek into. If you want a breezy yet thoughtful take on love, friendship, and marriage in Lagos? This one’s for you.

And yes, my white got slightly stained. But in a good way. Don’t ask me how cause I don’t know either.
