Character traits such as interest in sports (usually male-dominated ones), wearing clothing and hairstyles that are masculine or androgynous, displaying traits like confidence, assertiveness or competitiveness.

It is even seen as a way of challenging traditional gender stereotypes and expectations.
But just so we are clear, being a tomboy doesn't necessarily determine ones sexual orientation, i.e; one can be a tomboy and still be attracted to men.
I've been asked if I was a tomboy more than I can count, often in a tone that makes the word sound degrading, usually out of pure curiosity, and sometimes romantic and/or sexual desires of the other party who my appearance interests.
