Diary of Empresskitee
The Dawn of lost glory.
It was a beautiful morning,
The sky itself seemed to sing.
Drums echoed through the cities,
Trumpets kissed the rising sun.
New garments of pride were worn,
Mothers carried children with joy,
Fathers lifted their sons and daughters high,
As if to say “You are the future we fought for.”
The Union Jack fell to the earth,
And the Green-White-Green soared to the heavens.
“Happy Independence!” voices thundered,
A chorus of hope, a song of freedom.
But sixty-five years have passed…
Now the air is heavy with sighs.
Dreams weighed down by despair,
Not from forgetfulness
But from scars, from struggles, from unkept promises.
Yet still…
Still, we pray, oh we pray....
For a glory once lost, can be reborn,
And the Green-White-Green will shine again.
Nigeria, O beloved, again we'll raise our head high with pride.
