THE LAND OF GRIEF

I sing for you, oh land of tears and woe,

Where screams are silenced and blood nvs steady flow.

Congo, your children strewn on darkened plains,

Their hopeful smiles lost to hatred and pain.

The world moves on, not hearing your cries,

Though mothers weep as the innocent dies.

Babes clutched in arms as homes go up in flames,

Just another day in the land with no name.

They plunder your earth, those western kings,

They rob cobalt wealth, but no peace it brings.

With greed stained hands they fan war's raging fires,

Caring not for those languishing, expiring.

Oh Congo, hear my prayer across the miles

That somehow hope may glow through the trials.

You've seen dark tyrants rise and terror at night,

Yet resolute, your people still dream of light.

From burned out villages, the tears flow free,

I taste the salt, though I stand by the sea.

In bleak refugee camps where hunger holds sway,

I walk with you as night melts to day.

Though oceans lie between us, still I care,

I cry for your soul, I lament, I dare...

To believe that this land of starless voids

Will cast off the past, will find its voice.

So I sing for the Congo, for her people fine,

With hearts that endure though the world won't shine.

Rise from the ashes, oh phoenix so bold,

Reclaim the bright future that is yours to hold!
