It might only be a few months into 2023, but so far, the music releases have been anything but lacking.

Our favourite stars and gradually rising names have submerged the music landscape in everything from witty rap bars to sultry melodies. We have witnessed exciting collaborations, the return of enigmas, and the birth of new auspicious talent.

The year has been filled with fun and carefree, yet thoughtful singles. For your ease, we have curated a list of five of the best songs 2023 has offered so far.

"I Choose U" - RIMON ft. RINI

“If I could pick and choose / In this life or the next, yeah, I’d choose you," the uber-talented RIMON sings on her latest single, "I Choose U". With the help of her collaborator, RINI, she paints a picture of enduring love as she fuses genres such as pop, R&B, and neo-soul.

"There's Too Much of You" - Joya Mooi

Off her double album, What's Around the Corner, Joya Mooi masterfully displays her inner consciousness on the sleeper single, "There's Too Much of You". On the track, the singer assumes a relaxed demeanour of a person comfortable in their essence.

"Intermission- SGaWD"

Rap in Nigeria is assuming a new diverse face and SGaWD is one of the names heralding the space for young women. As gritty and unapologetic as ever, the rapper goes into her single, "Intermission" intending to captivate and she does so easily over supple production.

"Enough for Love" - Kelela

For her return to music after a nearly five-year-long hiatus, Kelela comes bearing whirring instrumentation backed by her usual syrupy vocals. On "Enough for Love", she poses essential questions to her love interest.

"Been Thinking" - Tyla

There is no doubt that Tyla is on a mission to sit at the top as the continent's biggest pop star. With her latest offerings, the young South African artist is well on her way to achieving this. "Been Thinking" is a carefree rhythmic house anthem sure to envelop every dancefloor.

"Disturbing U" - Darkoo ft Ayra Starr

Darkoo has never been one to shy away from thrilling collaborations. To add to her already vast repertoire, she enlisted Ayra Starr for this fun track.
