Barely 48 hours after the Chief Executive Officer of Meta, Mark Zuckerberg announced the launch of the Threads App, users on the app have hit 69 million.

Announcing the launch, Zuckerberg describes the app as a friendly public space open for conversations.

He says, "Hello everyone, big News today. We are launching threads, an open and friendly public space for conversations. It takes the best parts of the Instagram experience and creates a whole new app around texts, ideas and sharing of what's on your mind."

Noting that the app is available on the app store, Zuckerberg says, "You can just sign up on your Instagram account, and you have your followers already there, and you can just get into it and get started."

He adds, "The people that have tried it out, their reactions are really great. And I am looking forward to a fun journey ahead to turn this into the kind of big and friendly community that I think we all want to see all over the world."

Twitter Threatens to Sue Meta

However, shortly after the launch of the app, the world's renowned microblogging site, Twitter, threatened to take legal steps against Threads.

BBC reports that Twitter CEO Elon Musk said, "Competition is fine; cheating is not."

Also, Meta has denied claims that former staff from Twitter helped the company create Threads.

The concern for many remains whether Threads will be Twitter's 'killer' or whether Twitter will maintain its spot as the most microblogging site.
